Have you considered camping? Time in nature makes great memories for a family, couples or just yourself. Camping is a terrific way to commune with nature, though it is important to understand a fair bit about it first. Use these tips to get more from your experience.

Your sleeping bag should be seasonally appropriate. You are going to be really hot and uncomfortable camping in the summertime if your sleeping bag is rated for sub-zero temperatures. Also, during the winter, you should bring a sleeping bag that has down or heavy material. You may even subject yourself to hypothermia.

Always pack and carry a survival kit. A survival kit should include items like a flare gun, matches that are waterproof, a knife and other items you think you may need. These are essential items for your survival if you ever get lost. This kit should be carried with you and not left back at camp.

The way you prepare will determine whether your camping trip will be fun or if it will be dangerous. Always be well prepared prior to leaving on your camping trip. When you go to a new campground in a far away location, make sure you know about the wildlife and vegetation of the area.

If possible, incorporate swimming into your camping trip. When camping, home showers can seem like a luxury. The coolness of water while swimming is refreshing on hot days, and it helps you to clean yourself. You might not miss the shower after all!

Bring a hankerchief or a bandanna with you. You can use that piece of material for many purposes, such as holding a hot pot, cleaning surfaces, etc. There are various uses for this fabric piece, so be sure to carry one on your trip.

Dryer lint can be used as kindling for starting your campfire. Start collecting lint from the filter in your tumble dryer several weeks before your camping adventure. Hang a plastic bag beside your dryer and toss the lint into it. This is a good way to have kindling ready when it is time to go.

Oranges are good things to bring for your camping trip, and not only as a healthy snack option. Save all the orange peels. Before mosquitoes attack, rub them on exposed skin.

Your camp should be set up before the sun goes down. Figure out where you can park if you are driving an RV. Find a piece of ground that’s flat and dry if you are putting up a tent. Getting your camp set up before dark will give you time to get to know your campsite and surrounding area. Since you will know what you are doing, you’ll prevent frustration.

Duct tape is a handy tool to carry when you are camping. It can be used as a quick patch for tents, shoes, inflatables, or can be used to secure items such as your mosquito netting.

If your campsite is known for wildlife, be extremely careful with food. Keep things tightly wrapped and store them away from the site of your tent; if needed, avoid certain types of food altogether. Taking these precautions can significantly lower you chances of being attacked.

When you are camping, choose flat, soft ground to pitch your tent on. Picking a sloped or rocky spot causes you to feel uncomfortable anytime you sit in your tent. Put a tarp down before pitching your tent to prevent water from entering.

It is always a good idea to bring plenty of trail mix and/or beef jerky when you are planning a camping trip. After a long and tiresome day, you may want to eat these nutritious snacks instead of cooking. Also, these foods keep well so if you don’t eat them, you can enjoy them later.

Select a sleeping bag that works with the temperature and season. You need a lightweight sleeping bag for the summertime. Winter, on the other hand, requires a heavier sleeping bag that is rated for low temperatures.

Camping is a popular thing to do on vacation, but if it is not planned well, it can turn into a disaster. The above article has given you all the advice you need to ensure your next camping trip is enjoyable.
